YPSILANTI INVITATIONAL

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 1, 2010

Wednesday afternoon presented as an extra opportunity at Ypsilanti High School for a cross-section of the team to race, which included 40 Saline XC women.

JV HIGHLIGHTS:

A 2 mile course was configured with the top 3 times including Marissa Kouba finishing FIRST for Saline in 18:22 (8th JV) followed by Meredith Phillips crossing in 18:31 2nd for SXC (9thJV) and Elizabeth Wenner rounded out the top 3 in 18:50 (10thJV). 3 runners finished in the top 10 and 7 in the top 14 while 7 walked away with shiny medals. The weather was hot and sultry but a lot of the summer conditioning had these athletes prepared so they were very tough competitors and hung in there. CONGRATULATIONS!

VARSITY HIGHLIGHTS:

5K times along with JV are posted below. Top 3 Varsity finishers for Saline include Samantha Szuminski running 1st for our girls and crossed in 22:41 (5th overall) followed by teammate Lindsay Walter 2nd for Saline and 7th overall in 22:53 and Abbey Sovitch brought it home in 22:55 for 3rd place Saline and 8th overall.

Team scores were not kept but the Varsity total of 41 points is a very low and impressive score for the size of the meet. In due respect for a slow course and HOT weather, Saline Hornet harriers made an excellent showing that speaks to their early season preparation and true grit. GOOD JOB GIRLS!!

Rock on to Hudson Mills on Thursday evening for a dual meet against Pinckney.
