The MSU Invite was beyond QUICK!!! A breezy, early autumn day was a gift from Mother Nature. The featured elements included a dry course with the temperature at 60. Conditions facilitated a considerably faster race than the one our team ran on the same course last year. Our Varsity Hornet harriers are hard at work honing their “racer’s edge” as was demonstrated by an exceptionally good performance for mid-September at a very competitive CC Meet in the land of “green and white.”
Of note, Saline had 4 runners under 19:43 and 6 under 20:00. There was a mere 26 point spread separating the first 4 teams. The top 5 scores were: Rochester 146; Traverse City Central 154; Brighton 168; Saline held the fourth place team finish with 172 points and the 5th spot went to Rockford with a score of 217. Sweet. Nine of the top 10 teams from last year’s State Meet at MIS ran in this challenging “mini State Meet” Invitational.
Our girls were swift. They are all doing well. It is terrific to see Kari Frank building a solid senior season for her own sense of accomplishment and the team is bolstered by her strength each competition. Nice job, Kari! Alex Leptich claimed the 4th spot in the top echelon overall with an awesome clocking of 18:26. Kate Carter crossed in a super time of 19:26 followed by Lindsey Cummings in 19:32 and Rachel Jackson close by in 19:43. All times are posted below and truly are a beautiful thing…takes my breath away. Glad Meagan Creutz is feeling a bit better. Erin Dowling is a shining star…always puts her best foot forward with a 100% effort for the team. All of these key ingredients bode well for amazing races to look forward to in the weeks ahead. Outstanding job, ladies. Get some much deserved rest this weekend!
